Meet the team.
Giles Warburton
Managing Director / Project Delivery
After several years in senior IT project delivery positions, I realised that my passion and skills were best applied in rapidly building and motivating high-performance teams. My move into setting up a Recruitment business in New Zealand back in 2004 was a huge career shift at the time, but I’m glad I did it, as not much else can deliver the excitement and challenges, as well as the rewards.
Now many years later I am working with a fantastic team in the North West and due to its success, have opened a second office in Austin, Texas.
Mary Fidler
UK Director of Recruitment
What is your position?
I manage the UK team but I also fill executive-level roles, above £100k salaries in the North West and London.
What's your story?
Prior to ShortList, I worked as an account manager for an ink manufacturing company. I found out about ShortList through a friend and came for a chat with Giles, thinking he was going to find me my next sales role! I didn't think about recruitment as a career before meeting Giles but came away from the chat thinking that I should definitely give it a go... and the rest is History!

I have a cockapoo puppy and go on lots of beach walks at the weekends. I live on the Wirral, but I am from North Wales, so I separate my time between those places. I LOVE food and white wine, so you can often find me in a nice restaurant in Chester or Liverpool. I love going on beach holidays, Mexico is my ultimate fave! I also enjoy swimming and going to the gym.
What are your dislikes?
Porridge and traffic.

Billy Thompson
UK Consultant
What is your position?
I focus predominantly on Development roles, but will also look at Testing and Data roles across the North-West.
What's your story?
I moved to Chester in 2014 to study Criminology from the Lake District and decided to stay after graduation because I love the area (and my mum said I couldn't move back in with her). I spent 4 years in Sales and Lettings before making the switch to IT Recruitment in the Summer of 2021, a great decision if I do say so myself.
Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?
I have a keen interest in sports, particularly Football, Boxing and UFC. I'm also currently trying my hand at Golf and it's going terribly (if anyone knows how to stop shanking right on the driver please get in touch). In my spare time, I like spending time with friends and drinking Guinness.
What are your dislikes?
Hard to pick but let's go with: people being late, complaints about the temperature, posh chip shops, texting and Compare the Meerkat adverts.

Robert Sharp
UK Consultant
What is your position?
I mainly focus on filling .NET Software Developer roles in Manchester and its surrounding areas; however, I have also confidently worked with developers who use alternative tech stacks including JavaScript and PHP. On top of this, I also have experience in placing candidates in numerous Support roles all over the Northwest. These roles can range from hardware support to working with cloud infrastructure.
What's your story?
My recruitment journey began in January 2022 after graduating from the University of Liverpool with a degree in English Literature. Prior to working in recruitment, I worked as a customer assistant in retail for 5 years and have also had experience working as a tennis coach. I pride myself on my written and verbal communication skills and have always enjoyed working with and helping others. This combined with my competitive edge is the reason that I decided it was worth giving recruitment a shot!
Tell us about some of your interests. What are you into?
I love playing and watching sports, in particular football and tennis. I am a huge Liverpool FC supporter and have played tennis representing my home county North Wales. I also enjoy socialising with my friends and listening to music, so you can expect to find me in the pub or at a music event on the weekend.
What are your dislikes?
Early mornings and hangovers - you probably won't want to meet me when the two are combined.

Izzie Warburton
Digital Marketing Executive
At ShortList Recruitment, I specialise in creating and managing content and company events. From planning social media strategies to filming and producing videos using tools like Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, I have vastly expanded my skillset over the past few years.
A key part of my role is overseeing the VRT Power Up event page, where I manage upcoming events, develop graphics and video content, and help build a supportive and insightful online community.
Inspired by the Microsoft community, whom I have encountered through our VRTs, I recently completed the Microsoft Power Up Challenge, where I explored low-code app development and gained a score of 100% on my final submission. Through this challenge, I have gained new technical skills in Microsoft Dataverse, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI. This experience not only expanded my skill set in a new area, but I can now understand the more technical topics discussed during our virtual events to then produce insightful snippets to post on our socials.
