ShortList is looking for a Chief Risk Officer to join the executive leadership team of an established financial institution in New Mexico. The Chief Risk Officer will own enterprise risk across the full risk landscape and report directly to the CEO.
This role would suit someone with 15+ years of risk leadership and with experience of building or strengthening an enterprise risk management framework. The role is on-site in New Mexico but relocation assistance is available.
Key Responsibilities for the Chief Risk Officer role:
- Set and drive enterprise risk strategy as a member of the executive leadership team
- Own the enterprise risk management framework, risk governance and board-level risk reporting
- Lead compliance, BSA/AML and fraud across the organization
- Own internal audit, information security oversight and third-party risk
- Embed risk management into strategic planning, new business initiatives and growth
- Build scalable risk processes and develop capability across the organization
- Manage policy governance, legal coordination and regulatory readiness
Key skills for the Chief Risk Officer role:
- Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, or equivalent.
- 15+ years of demonstrable risk leadership including executive-level responsibility
- Track record of building enterprise risk frameworks and scalable governance practices
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, BSA/AML, internal audit, fraud, vendor risk and operational risk
- Executive presence and the judgement to balance regulatory expectations against commercial objectives
- Credit Union, Tier 3/4 Bank or other highly regulated financial services background is preferable
